8x72Rimmed Sauer DWM #574
This straight, rimmed case was developed by Wilhelm Brenneke in 1898 and called the 8.1x72Rimmed. This was later revised by Sauer for use in combination guns and Drillings. The 8x72 R Sauer is sometimes listed as the 8x72R S&S or 8x72 Rimmed/360. Date of introduction is not established, but the old DWM case No. 574 would indicate sometime around 1898-1910 . The 8x72Rmm was derived from the older 9.3x72Rimmed. The 8x72Rimmed Case is full-length tapered to accommodate an 8mm bullet. Late RWS catalogs list this as a discontinued number. The 8x72 R would be useful mostly for hunting of deer-size game
