40/70 Sharps (Necked)

This cartridge was introduced appox 1876 . It became very popular with Single Shot Shooters. it was also called the Sharps 40 1/2. Major companies Winchester , Remington as well as Sharps Rifle Company produced loaded ammunition as well as empty cases. This was mostly used as a target cartridge. This was a short lived factory cartridge with the introduction of smokeless powder.

The 40/70 Sharps does remain popolare with the single shot shooters.

Many remington rolling blocks were converted to this chambering as well as Winchester single shots
