11.53 x50R Belgium Albini-Braendlin M67/72

The rifle is a breech loading design using a 11.53 x 50R centerfire metallic cartridge. The rifle has a front-hinged, forward lifting action with a mechanism that works together with the hammer-striker assembly to simultaneously lock and fire the rifle.   The rifle was adopted by Belgium in 1867 but it appears that problems with the Albani itself or delays with its delivery caused the adoption, as a temporary measure, “The Terssen  ” designed by Colonel Terssen of the arms factory at Liege, in 1868.  The Terssen did not remain in service once numbers of Albini’s were delivered. This rifle was built both as a conversion of the French M1777 flintlock pattern and as a conversion of the Belgian M1848, which had already received Belgian back-action locks

The Belgian military began testing this rifle in 1867 to replace their rimfire Comblain No. 1 rifle. There was no clear cut winner, but the Belgians continued to work with Albini and Braendlin to develop the design for their military. It was adapted in 1872 and is capable of propelling a 386 grain bullet at 1.370 FPS
